GSM Art is the work of a Scottish painter drawn to coastlines, open skies, and the quiet drama of natural light. Every painting begins with a place — somewhere that stopped me in my tracks.
Artist Bio
Gordon Stewart Miller is a Scottish artist working primarily in acrylics, inspired by the coastlines, skies and landscapes of Scotland. His paintings are driven by a fascination with natural light and the way it transforms familiar places into moments of drama, tranquillity and beauty.
After a successful career in product design consultancy spanning more than 35 years, Gordon turned his creative focus towards painting. His background in design developed a keen eye for composition, colour and detail, skills that now inform his artistic practice.
Working from sketches, photographs and direct observation, he creates original paintings that balance representation with expressive use of colour and texture. Through GSM Art, Gordon aims to share the places that have inspired him and invite viewers to experience the emotional connection that landscape can create.
How it started
I came to painting later in life, picking up a brush after years of admiring other people's work and thinking I couldn't do it myself. Turns out, the only thing standing between me and painting was starting. Acrylic became my medium of choice — fast-drying, forgiving, and endlessly versatile. I paint on canvas and board, layering colour until the light feels right.
The process
Most paintings start outdoors — a sketch, a photo, a feeling I want to hold onto. Back in the studio I work from memory as much as reference, letting the paint lead. I'm drawn to coastal scenes, wide horizons, and the way colour shifts at the edges of the day. No two paintings are the same, and that's exactly the point.
Occasionally I will add new paintings to the portfolio section & these can be purchased directly through this website or you can buy them in person from the North Berwick Art Group Show that takes place in The Hope Rooms, North Berwick in July & November every year.
